Coaching

At PTT we have a strong focus on organic coaching. We have found that most players learn best through simple, regular participation in our competitions. Because of the large number of participants, there is a natural process of skills transfer between players on almost every game they play.

What’s more is that it is done in a social, non-threatening, low-pressure environment which makes a player more open to suggestion and willingness to change. One is more likely to remember something if you have to figure it out for yourself. Formal coaching on the other hand can often take the fun out of it and put a player under undue pressure.

For more insight into (or backup for) our philosophy on coaching through playing, please have a look at this article by Mark Simpson, professional table tennis player from England.

With that said, we do understand that there is a place for formal coaching as well. Especially as far as the junior players are concerned, it is easier to break bad habits before they get a chance to become a permanent part of their game.

However, we have a policy of encouraging a player’s natural strengths and playing ability, instead of “forcing them into a box”. Many coaches tend to turn players into “mini-me’s” instead of identifying and encouraging inherent ability – which kills a young player’s spirit and raw talent.

For 90% of players, simple regular participation in our events will be exactly the coaching process they need. For the others that want to be a lot more serious about their game, please see the contact details on the right.
